Travel grants for chess tournaments

The ICGA is offering ten travel support grants of 1,000 Euro each to assist participants at the 2010 World Computer Chess Championship and World Chess Software Championship in Kanazawa, Japan (September 24th-October 2nd 2010). In order to be eligible for consideration for an early decision as to the award for a grant, participants must send in their entry for the event to reach the ICGA secretariat not later than May 31st 2010. Entries received after that date will be considered for a grant only if all ten of the awards are not made to those who enter before the May 31st deadline.

The ICGA will allocate the grants in accordance with the following order of priorities:

Programming team members before operators who are not in the programming team. [NOTE: For the purposes of this priority, someone who worked on the openings book but not on the programming will not be considered as a member of the programming team.] The purpose of this priority is to encourage the presence of as many of the programmers as possible.

Within each of the two above groups the grants will be allocated in accordance with the following priority order:

The ICGA secretariat will take appropriate steps where necessary to verify the status of entrants who apply to take part in the Amateur or Semi-Professional categories.

Entrants do not need to make any special application for a travel grant. The ICGA will assume that everyone will want one if available!

All those who enter one or both of the chess events by May 31st will be notified by June 15th as to whether or not they will receive a travel grant. Those who are offered grants will have the 1,000 Euro credited to their bank accounts shortly after completion of the event in Kanazawa.
